The Good Samaritan story teaches us that knowledge alone is not enough and faith alone is not enough. We need knowledge, faith and love in order to look after all of our ‘neighbours’ and change the world. God created us to actually make an impact and we wish for our children both learning through knowledge and learning through faith so that they can rise to the challenge of what God would wish us to do and do it with and through love. The parable offers us a vision of hope, showing that enemies can be friends, that compassion has no boundaries and that we must not judge others on the basis of their religion or ethnicity. To give rather than take. To put others’ needs above our own. To ‘Go and do likewise’ Luke 10:37.
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
